ABSTRACT

Urban insects can cause two types of problems (1) Direct damage, which is quantifiable for commodity loss such as food or wood and includes time and money spent for control. (2) Psychological impact, especially the assumed threat to a city dweller’s home or personal property. Since many urbanites rarely encounter animals or insects in a natural setting, they may assign pest status to non-threatening creatures or behaviors. Ethnic background will also affect reactions to the insects and their nesting activities in houses or apartments (Fowler 1984).
