ABSTRACT

Attine ants are sensitive to several genera of pathogenic fungi in vitro (Gosswald 1938; Schaeffer 1941; Steinhaus and Marshall 1967; Weber 1972; Kermarrec and Mauléon 1975; Kermarrec et al. 1986). However, Kermarrec et al. (1986) emphasized that experimentally induced pathologies have not succeeded in a natural context. The vigilance of worker ants faced with exogenous factors is responsible for colony resistance to artificially induced or natural biohazards.
