ABSTRACT
As editor of this volume, I have had the wonderful opportunity of studying its contents rather thoroughly. During the conference itself, there was too much "noise" to grasp the whole. Now that I can see it from a broader view, I would like to address three areas: the need for the conference and its proceedings; the need for long-term carbon dioxide enrichment studies; and, finally, a few concluding remarks.
