ABSTRACT
The Arab Republic of Egypt is situated in northeastern Africa along the Nile River. On the positive side, the government of Egypt wisely chose to use carefully elaborated techniques of focused domain selection, knowledge engineering options, and selection and evaluation of domain experts and hardware platforms. Availability of expertise, usefulness and potential return on investment of the proposed system, decision complexity, and other factors were considered in the selection of the targets for the knowledge engineering project. Expert Systems have the potential to provide intelligent decision support to crop managers, planners, and others where needed to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of crop management decisions. Crop management includes different disciplines within agriculture: soil science, water and irrigation, plant nutrition, plant protection, agricultural economics, and production. There are numerous experts in cultivation under plastic tunnels within the Ministry because of the great national interest in protected agriculture.
