ABSTRACT

The IoT, an effective and promising technology, is the network of devices that connects through a common Internet network for exchanging data. The objects are connected to the Internet through a wireless medium by specifying Internet protocol (IP) addresses. Earlier radio frequency identification (RFID) technology was used to connect different devices, but because of its limited functionality, IoT came into existence that primarily focuses on IP networking.

From surgical suite equipment in healthcare to production optimization; from increasing supply-chain efficiencies and addressing rising energy costs to securing devices and making smart homes, office, or cities a reality, along with smart transportation by reducing traffic and minimizing vehicle impact on the environment, everything has become smarter with IoT. These smart and intelligent objects are embedded with electronics, software, actuators, sensors, and network connectivity that communicate with each other and with the users through remote connections. These systems are handled remotely via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or Ethernet using smart phones remotely that reduce human effort and time.

The objective of the IoT system is to manage the objects smartly around people to provide economical solutions to daily problems. This chapter highlights the smart light system that provides an easy, reliable, and efficient way of handling and controlling lights through a wireless medium and remote access. The system replaces the conventional wired method, which is costly and requires management of a lot of cable connections. Thus the fault detection, maintenance, and management of smart light systems are comparatively easy and efficient.
