ABSTRACT

Lignocellulosic biomass is considered as renewable and sustainable biomass for bioethanol production. However, the processes involved in the degradation of cell wall compositions of lignocellulosic biomass forms a barricade in its economical production. Therefore the present chapter discusses the general characteristics of the enzymes that exhibit hydrolytic behaviour on lignocellulosic biomass and demonstrate the strategies for engineering the microorganisms for enhanced production of these enzymes. Further, the bioinformatics approaches that have been introduced for several genomics, proteomics and functional applications of lignocellulolytic enzymes for higher biofuel yield have also conversed.
