ABSTRACT

This study includes planning of a renewables-based energy system, which will cover the expected future increase in electricity needs of the island of Karpathos, while minimizing use of diesel generators, replacing them with new wind energy parks, photovoltaic instalments and hydrogen production systems. Energy system design and financial evaluation was based on realistic figures and concluded using HOMER software, which models and monitors Stand-Alone Power Systems including all kinds of renewable as well as conventional energy sources. As a result, it provides the optimal scenario, as well as sensitivity analysis for each one, while taking into consideration any criteria and constraints given.
