ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the design and the development of an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model, estimating the surface ozone concentration when the values of other pollutant and meteorological parameters are already known. The Tropospherical ozone is considered an important air pollutant especially in major metropolitan centers like Athens Greece. Back Propagation ANN, Modular ANN, General Regression ANN, Radial Basis Function ANN and Self Organizing maps have been developed and trained, applying numerous different topologies and using several combinations of Optimization and Transfer functions. ANN are surely a very powerful tool that offers a good approach towards ozone concentration. The Input Layer of the developed ANN consists of eleven Neurons corresponding to eleven independent parameters.
