ABSTRACT
The possibility of the existence in amorphous materials of point defects such as vacancies and interstitials and of line defects such as dislocations is discussed. These defects are defined as non-equilibrium modifications of the metastable equilibrium state which is constrained not to crystallize. Two questions are of interest: Can they be produced and are they stable? Both are answered in the affirmative.
