ABSTRACT

Quantum effect on kink pair formation process is investigated by the concept of tunneling through Peierls potential. Using the string model of a dislocation, an appropriate one particle approximation is established to represent the kink pair formation process, and the probability of the nucleation of a kink pair due to tunneling is calculated by WKB approximation. This theory gives quantitatively good agreement with the non-zero strain rate sensitivity of the athermal flow stress observed near OK for https://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> { 100 } < 1 1 ¯ 0 > https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9780429070914/679f2623-d509-4a65-a488-93e3a3b19d40/content/eq750.tif" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/> slip in the several kinds of alkali-halide crystals with NaCl structure.
