ABSTRACT

Computer simulation of the interaction between a screw dislocation and a self-interstitial atom under an applied stress has been made using a model iron lattice constructed by Johnson-Wilson potential. It was observed that the orientation of the dumb-bell was changed when a moving screw dislocation comes to the dumb-bell site and at higher stress level the dumb-bell was converted to a crowdion after the dislocation passed away. In all cases investigated no absorption of a dumb-bell into a dislocation core was observed and no change of the gliding path of the dislocation occurred by this interaction.
