ABSTRACT

In the first stages of deformation of single crystals of neutron-irradiated Cu, Cu-30%Zn, and Cu-10%Ni the development of slip lines is recorded by high-speed cinematography through a light microscope. Measurements on thin flat crystals (down to 20 μm thickness) are compared with results on cylindrical crystals of 4 mm diameter. Accounting for the bending stress in the Lüders band front, the geometry of the dislocations propagating across the slip planes is inferred and velocities of dislocation groups are estimated.
