ABSTRACT

Much of organometallic chemistry is capable of supramolecular association and various possibilities to form host–guest complexes are known. Self-assembled (solution and solid state) and self-organized (solid state) supramolecular structures are formed through a variety of intermolecular interactions: dative coordinate bonds, secondary bonds or soft–soft interactions, ionic bonds (electrostatic interactions), π-bonding, and cooperative mixed-type interactions. In host–guest complexes, organometallic moieties can be found either as hosts or guests.
