ABSTRACT

This short paper serves as an introduction towards obtaining an original general formula that generates the stability functions of a family of methods, named by the author Implicit Advanced Step-point (IAS) methods [1]. The family of IAS methods encompasses the Two IAS methods (TIAS), the Parallel IAS methods (PIAS) and the Extended and Modified Extended BDF schemes (EBDF and MEBDF respectively). A general formula of this sort can substantially facilitate stability analysis and further computational manipulation of the IAS family of methods and analogous schemes. Due to space restrictions we are unable to present a full account of our new general formula.
