ABSTRACT

The automatic generation of signal transduction pathways is challenging because it often yields complicated, non-planar diagrams with a large number of intersections. Most signal transduction pathways available in public databases are static images and thus cannot be refined or changed to reflect updated data. We have developed an algorithm for visualizing signal transduction pathways dynamically as three-dimensional layered digraphs. Experimental results show that the algorithm generates clear and aesthetically pleasing representations of large-scale signal-transduction pathways.
