ABSTRACT

As do many great projects, this book began with a chance encounter. The encounter was between two of the authors, Tony Suchman and me (David Sluyter). Tony had come to the Fetzer Institute to participate in a program at its retreat center, Seasons. I had just returned to my office at Fetzer after completing a heavy schedule of travel. During a break in the retreat proceedings, Tony walked over to the administration building to see if I was available for a brief hello and check-in. I was, and as always, was glad to see him. But the brief check-in became an earnest discussion that ended with an idea and a mutual commitment to create this book. Here is how that happened.
