ABSTRACT

In the region of megaporphyritic-like medium to coarse grained granite, the weathered overburden of lithosome is very thick, only under the protection of fine grained granite at the top border fades of the rock mass can the magmatic body within overburden be found. The feldspar content of granite amounts to above 2/3, with a weak bond between two groups of medium cleavage, which is advantage for percussion and rotation drilling operation. Granite, having a developed joint-fissure structure, can be quarried to produce main rockfill and transition rockfill material through one-shot differential blasting method. Having been compacted by a vibrating roller, the rockfill shows adequate strength and modulus of compressibility, which are up to design requirement. Bedding material, composed of sound granitic crushed rock mixed with fully weathered granitic sand containing fine-grained soil, has fairly good physical and machanical characteristics, which meet the requirement for load transfering zone and the second seepage barrier of concrete faced rockfill dam.
