ABSTRACT

Health Education Yorkshire and the Humber run applications nationally for trauma and orthopaedic surgery. In 2014, applications opened in February and remained open for 1 month. Interviews were held in April/May and offers were released at the end of May. The application form allows assessment of doctors' eligibility to apply for an ST3 post. The first part of the form consists of various sections asking for personal details, job history and the names and details of three consultant referees. One of the referees has to be a consultant supervisor from doctors' position at the time of application and the other two need to have supervised they in some capacity. The second part of the form assesses the essential person specifications and asks if doctors have passed the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons exam. The Advanced Trauma and Life Support course is an essential requirement that needs to be performed by the time of interview.
