ABSTRACT

Laparoscopic pyeloplasty was first described by Schuessler et al. In recent years robotic assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty using the da Vinci or Zeus robotic systems has gained increasing interest. The indication for laparoscopic pyeloplasty is similar to that for open surgery. This operation can also be successfully performed when previous treatment approaches such as endopyelotomy and open or even laparoscopic pyeloplasty have failed. The indication for laparoscopic pyeloplasty is similar to that for open surgery and mainly relies on the occurrence of urinary tract infections, recurrent flank pain, reduced renal function and impaired. Prior treatment of the ureteropelvic junction is not necessarily a contraindication for laparoscopic surgery. Also, the intraoperative laparoscopic insertion of a double-J stent over the incised ureteral stump has been described and currently seems to be the most accepted solution.
