ABSTRACT
Fournier’s gangrene is a necrotizing infection of the external genitalia that is a urological emergency. Tuberculosis of the genitourinary system is usually caused by haematogenous and/or lymphatic dissemination of mycobacteria from a primary lung infection, or very rarely by direct inoculation during sexual intercourse. A haematocele is a collection of blood with the tunica vaginalis and typically results from blunt or sharp trauma to the external genitalia. Genital trauma is relatively common in men due to the exposed nature of the genitalia and a higher level of participation in physical sports. Men who have sustained blunt scrotal trauma classically present with acute, severe pain associated with scrotal bruising and swelling. Bladder trauma commonly presents with the classic triad of gross haematuria, suprapubic tenderness and difficulty or inability to void. Traumatic extraperitoneal bladder injuries are usually associated with pelvic fractures, resulting in direct perforation by a bony fragment, a compression burst injury or laceration by shear forces.
