ABSTRACT

Osteoporosis is a chronic disorder of bone metabolism, with a gradual decrease in their density and quality, making them more fragile and delicate over time. This results in an increased risk of bone fractures as their strength and elasticity decrease.

The treating physician must choose the most appropriate treatment for his patient taking into account its history, the risk of fracture, previous therapies, the cost and definitely the adverse events of the chosen medication.Several drugs have been described regarding the appropriate treatment of osteoporotic patients and different protocols have been extensively analyzed. This chapter aims to present all the well-known pharmaceutical substances for the management of osteoporosis and emphasize on the systemic complications that can possibly happen upon their administration.
