ABSTRACT
The chapter describes Guidelines on Physical Work Demands for assessing all aspects of the physical work demands of building tasks in the construction industry. The assessment of these demands based on an adequate task analysis is a particularly important step in reducing physical work demands. It is then possible to reduce physical work demands using technical, organizational, or individual measures. The following section (Applications of the Guidelines in Standards for Professions) describes the process of applying these instructions in specific standards for construction industry professions through the Arbouw documents (A-documents). The final section contains Dutch legislation relating to lifting on construction sites, based on the A-documents under Application of the Guidelines in Standards for Professions.
