ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we can learn lessons from other fields instead of only ergonomics standardization. The authors distinguish between standards (the result of standardization, usually a document) and standardization (the process of making standards). General lines on standards and standardization, ergonomics standards and standardization are described, and the situation to which ergonomics differs from the situation of standards and standardization, in general, are examined. The authors conclude that the goals of ergonomic standards and standardization differ from those that generally apply and discuss the possible lessons.
