ABSTRACT
To clarify the EU requirement on Risk Assessment, this chapter discusses the concept of risk assessment and its development; describes how the new process-oriented OHSM strategy—notably, Directive 89/391/EEC—has evolved from this development and from other changes in OHS policies; reports the type and content of the Framework Directive’s Risk Assessment, especially the risks and how they are to be assessed; and details the slow implementation in—and outlines some principles of—the interpretation and application of the Risk Assessment “standard” even in small firms.
