ABSTRACT

This chapter is a re-examination of the thesis that, in different fields of design, cognitive processes have significant similarities and differences that help us discriminate as well as bridge them. Some of the notable variants of design, that have been reported in the past, such as rich representations, inventive strategies, problem (de)composition, and complexity management 1 , have helped draw interdisciplinary comparisons. This chapter is an attempt to revisit these findings in the context of the DTRS7 data and seek new insights about variants and invariants of design cognition.
