ABSTRACT
The following is a history of abstract ideal theory from its beginnings with Wolfgang Krull to the present. We concentrate on multiplicative lattices, especially Noether lattices and r‐lattices, but x‐ systems are covered briefly. We include an extensive set of references for both multiplicative lattices and x‐systems.
