ABSTRACT
Deer density and associated impact on forest resources are directly influenced by weather; forest type; and presence, absence, and/or condition of deer habitat requirements as affected by species composition, vertical forest structure, and proportion of different habitat components provided by forest succession. These factors vary by geographic region and forest management practices, requiring the combined inputs from deer and forest biologists to help assess and manage habitat conditions affecting deer density and impact.
