ABSTRACT

Alexander has proposed hundreds of patterns for architecting buildings and communities. He documented patterns for the design elements of a home, for the organization of houses to create community, for the arrangement of businesses around communities. The problem with inventing, creating, or just writing new patterns is that there is no assurance that it is a valid pattern. When looking for patterns to address a project challenge, one must decide whether the problem being addressed is similar to the problem the pattern is intended to solve. A common challenge in the patterns community is that they need to be used and implemented to be useful. The experienced project manager will work with his/her team members to develop the project plan, gaining their input and leveraging their experience. Resources can be thought of as any number of items, to include budget, machines, and locations.
