ABSTRACT

Retrosternal goiters (RSG) remain a challenging entity to surgeons despite improvements in diagnostics and surgical techniques. There remains a dearth of consensus on terminology and pathophysiology of RSG. It's often diagnosed late or incidentally, and exclusion of malignancy preoperatively remains a challenge. RSG merit a comprehensive preoperative workup followed by meticulous management for optimal outcome. This chapter deals with pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic workup, management strategies and outcome of RSG.
