ABSTRACT

This chapter is a pictorial representation of the imaging in thyroid diseases, with special emphasis on the modality of choice, ultrasound. Basic principles of ultrasound and common artifacts relevant to neck imaging have been explained. The chapter aims to cover both diffuse thyroid disorders and focal thyroid nodules, as evaluation and understanding of background thyroid parenchyma precedes the evaluation of any focal abnormality. The chapter is illustrated with suitable state-of-the-art ultrasound images, well marked and enclosed with a detailed caption, for the ease of understanding. Apart from the common and typical imaging cases, few select atypical and rare cases have also been included. The chapter aims to serve as a guide for endocrine physicians, surgeons, radiologists and nuclear imaging physicians in their day-to-day practice.
