ABSTRACT

Tumors of the adrenal gland may be benign or imply a high level of morbidity and mortality due to their hormonal activity or to a possible malignant histology. Improvement of the technique and availability of wide range of imaging methods have led to increased diagnosis of adrenal tumors. When treating a patient with adrenal tumors, the main concern of the clinician should be to establish if the lesion is a malignant neoplasm and if there is some hormonal functioning, which are two occurrences that usually require surgery. Complete clinical, endocrine and radiological assessment is required to evaluate the functional (hormonal secretion) and malignant potential of the tumor.
