ABSTRACT

Omentectomy is part of the routine surgical staging operation for ovarian cancer, as it may harbor subclinical tumor metastasis even when normal in appearance. In women with

advanced-stage ovarian cancer, however, the omentum is typically inltrated with grossly apparent tumor implants (Figure 9.1). ese implants oen coalesce into a bulky tumor mass (the so-called omental cake), which may extend to involve the gastrocolic ligament and/or the transverse colon, as well as other structures (Figure 9.2). Resection of bulky omental disease is an integral component of cytoreductive surgery.
