ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a brief introduction to polymeric coatings. It begins with salient features, uses, applications, and importance of polymeric coatings. The state-of-the-art polymeric coatings are then discussed. Some theoretical concepts inherent in solution-casted coatings, namely, polymer structure, solubility parameters, and polymer solution thermodynamics, are also elucidated. In addition, the role of different ingredients incorporated into polymeric coatings has been studied. Finally, the current demand of polymeric coatings by the industry is presented.
