ABSTRACT

This chapter is aimed to the formal task definition of the utilization of satellite data in the multi-model approach for socio-ecological risk assessment tasks. A multi-modeling approach to decision-making in the field of environmental security is a quite new methodology to utilize satellite observations for risks assessment. The main idea is to use the inter-connected models of environment and disaster-forming processes to select the control variables and indicators for satellite observations. Satellite data, if-field measurements, and modeling results are combining into the complex data set reflecting the nexus in the system studied. Resulting data after application of the proposed regularization algorithms is prepared for application of risk assessment and decision-making stochastic and probabilistic methods. Proposed formalization “information-response” for decision-making model envisages the feedbacks and reactions of the managed system to the decisions applied. Also a number of important methodical and methodological limitations are considered in this chapter.
