ABSTRACT

There has been a rapid increase in polymeric materials and they have become a part of human life, which is probably due to their potential applications and their functional characteristics. However, the use of polymeric systems that are nondegradables induces serious problems to human life as well as to the environment and it affects the sustainable development of the ecosystem. In order to avoid these drawbacks, the biodegradable and biocompatible polymeric systems and their derivatives, enabled composites, are essential. In this context, current advancements in biodegradable and biocompatible materials are described. Interesting facts about biodegradable and biocompatible materials, their significance, and the necessity for biodegradable and biocompatible materials and their applications are highlighted. A wide range of biobased resources are utilized for green synthesis, and their functional properties are also reviewed. Further, this chapter expounds that the biodegradable and biocompatible materials with extensive functionalities could facilitate the delivery of efficient and affordable biomedical applications.
