ABSTRACT

Geospatial sUAS challenges the operational capacity of traditional cyber and personnel investments by introducing rapid innovation, adoption of which is dependent upon new skill, computation, and collaboration. After introducing selected working definitions, this chapter examines the historical context of geospatial interoperability and common points of failure to replicate in sUAS including hardware, mission planning, data curation and warehousing, software, finance, and technology transfer. sUAS-related interoperability requirements in selected applications including emergency response, law enforcement, food security, and agriculture are then discussed. Finally, recommendations to enable multiuser sUAS workflow replicability are explored within the broader goals of geospatial interoperability and real-world collaborative problem solving.
