ABSTRACT

In Chapter 26 I have described our conflict with Bomber Command over the operational use of H2S. The second reason for our turmoil in 1944 was largely internal in TRE and arose from disagreements about the development of an improved H2S with superior definition to the Mark II and III systems then in service or projected. Before 1944 ended we had no less than five Lancasters at Defford equipped with various experimental versions of improved 3 centimetre (X-band) or 1.25 centimetre (K-band) H2S and a sixth system was under development.
