The intravenous administration of a large dose of antigen can evoke in some individuals a type III hypersensitivity reaction or immune-complex disease (Fig. 8.1). Antigen administration produces a rapid IgG response and the formation of antigen:antibody complexes (immune complexes) that can activate complement.
