ABSTRACT

Sea buckthorn (Hippophae Linn.) is a unique and valuable multipurpose plant species. It is one of the most magical plant resources for firewood, fodder, and serves as a soil binder species. It plays an important role in soil erosion control, reclamation of degraded and wastelands, wildlife habitat enhancement, and farmstead protection. However, despite the rich and exploited nutritional and medicinal value, sea buckthorn requires more research regarding its environmental aspect especially in fragile mountainous regions which are most susceptible to human impact. Therefore, present review article is an attempt to open up a new horizon for researchers in the unexplored environmental aspect of this wonder plant and its role in biodiversity conservation.
