ABSTRACT

Aquatic plants, otherwise termed as weeds, are fast-growing plants that complete their life cycle in water bodies. Because of its rapid growth and multiplication, it causes deleterious effects to aquatic environment and public health both directly and indirectly. Therefore, considering the harmful effects and economical loss it is essential to control the population of aquatic weeds in water bodies. Because of their high productivity and organic content, aquatic weeds have attracted interest to utilize it for biofuel production (ethanol, methane, and hydrogen) and green leaf manure. This chapter is envisaged to have an insight into variety of aquatic weeds, macrophytes, and dedicated energy crops that have significant impact on lignocellulosic biofuel.
