ABSTRACT

Plant tissue will usually have a charge imbalance because of the difference in equivalent charge concentration between inorganic cations and inorganic anions. The cell adjusts the differences in equivalent charge concentration by increasing or decreasing the organic anions. Ion balance in plant tissue pertains to the maintenance of electro-neutrality between the inorganic cations and the sum of inorganic anions and organic anions. Ion balance will be considered as it relates to the nitrogen source available for accumulation and the cation accumulation by the soybean plant.
