ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to describe some aspects of mineral nutrition that specifically afect symbioses between rhizobia and legumes, soybeans in particular. Most of the information comes from research with other legumes. Extrapolating it to soybeans is uncertain, because legume symbioses vary in response to mineral nutrition, even at the level of rhizobial strain or host plant variety. This variation is a hindrance to easy generalization. More important, it may allow selection of plants and rhizobia for useful tolerance of nutritional stresses.
