ABSTRACT
In this crop year of 1978/1979 it is projected that worldwide production of fats and oils will total approximately 55 million tons. Of this total, soy oil is projected to account for 12.2 million tons or about 22% of total world fats and oils production. Of that 12.2 million tons, the U.S. is expected to produce 8.2 million tons or 67% of the total world soy oil production. Only animal fats (which include tallow, lard and butter) exceed soy oil production (14.6 million tons). On a world basis, sunflowerseed was projected as third in production with 4.9 million tons or 8.9% of total production.
