ABSTRACT

The microbial testing of cannabis and cannabis products presents a unique set of challenges. Unlike food testing, cannabis testing has various routes of administration to consider. Cannabis flowers express high levels of antimicrobial cannabinoids and terpenoids and thus represent a different matrix from traditional foods. It is currently estimated that 50% of cannabis is consumed via vaporizing or smoking oils and flowers while the other half is consumed as marijuana-infused products (MIPs), which encompass a wide variety of matrices.
