ABSTRACT

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the next evolution of the internet and interconnected world. Interacting with the internet has become second nature for most of the developed world. IoT security is concerned with safeguarding connected devices on the internet and preventing unauthorized use or access. One of the major implications for IoT devices with poorly implemented security is their use as the sources of Distributed denial of service (DoS) attacks on private, government, and commercial internet sites. A group of infected devices that can be controlled as a group is referred to as a ‘Botnet’. DoS—In the most basic form, a DoS attack is one machine overwhelming the resources of a target machine or server. A well-known open-source tool is called the Low Orbit ION Cannon and can be used to load test systems but also can be used to conduct a DoS attack.
