ABSTRACT

The best level of palliative care delivery consists of having multiple disciplines involved in each setting to provide care that meets the needs of patients and families. However, interdisciplinary specialist palliative care clinics remain the gold standard for outpatient palliative care delivery due to their ability to provide multidimensional care to the patient and their family. There are some specific characteristics of successful outpatient palliative care delivery: One problem associated with outpatient palliative care centers is the lack of timely referrals. Home is considered the center of palliative care delivery since most patients and their families prefer to stay at home as long as possible, and during all the early stages of the illness, patients receive all their care while residing at home.
