ABSTRACT
Pruritus is defined as “an unpleasant sensation that provokes the desire to scratch.” It has a prevalence of 27% in common tumor sites, and in cholestasis, up to 80% of patients may complain of itch. Severe cases cause distress and can be difficult to treat. This chapter will summarize the pathogenesis, causes, and effects of pruritus and will discuss possible treatment options.
