ABSTRACT

More recent studies indicate that PC needs in countries with limited resources will increase with the largest proportional rise in low-income countries. There are few resources devoted to the translation of new knowledge and evidence into practice in ways that benefit patients and the families around the world, and research in resource-rich countries may provide only partial benefit for countries with limited resources. In 2007, the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC) and the European Association for Palliative Care published the Declaration of Venice to generate awareness and a call to action to support, strengthen, and fund research in LMICs. This chapter describes new or updated tools, resources, and projects in which IAHPC has worked on and developed since the publication of this book's previous edition. PC advocates in LMICs face socioeconomic factors which may delay the development of the field.
