ABSTRACT

Patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) have tremendous palliative care needs throughout their illness trajectory necessitating the early integration of palliative care into kidney care. This chapter will describe key aspects of kidney palliative care, including prognostication, decision-making, advances in conservative (non-dialysis) kidney management pathways, and considerations around the withdrawal of dialysis. It will also review the screening and management of pain and other common symptoms for patients with advanced CKD.
