ABSTRACT

Usually, an inspection of fatigue damage is often executed with visual inspection. However, it is difficult to inspect the fatigue damages in welding lines in orthotropic steel decks with visual inspection. In addition, there is some possibility of miss to detect the internal damage with non-destructive testing. In this study, we carried out vibration fatigue test using specimens that simulate the welding lines of U-rib in orthotropic steel decks. And we examined whether it is possible to quantitatively find cracks by comparing the axial stress and stress range in the two directions around cracks.
